Here are the details for the Exercise in Flagstaff:

The Exercise will take place at Camp Navajo, a few miles east of Flagstaff.

6:30 AM Arrive at the Exercise site. 

7:00 AM Briefing, "continental" breakfast and set-up.

9:00 AM Exercise begins.

12:00 PM Lunch.

1:30 PM Finish and pack-up.

Since the Exercise begins at 6:30 AM, you might want to consider spending the night before, Friday, September 24, in Flagstaff.  Alternatively, you would likely have to leave Chandler somewhere around 3:30 - 4:00 AM on Saturday.

We will attempt to arrange car pools for those interested in participating.

The Scenario is planned to be a train car carrying hazardous materials has been derailed and there are mass casualties.

The specialties to tested include:

Evacuation (light search & rescue)

Triage

Treatment

Incident command

Sheltering

Communications (Hams needed)

Administration (assisting in running the event)

You may bring along friends and family members (non-cert members), who can participate as victims, should they choose to do so.

We need to know by Thursday July 29 whether you plan on attending.

This promises to be a fun exercise where you can use and test your skills and work with other cert groups from around the state.

Do You have a Family disaster Plan? Do you have a Family Emergency Contact Plan? Everyone needs to Have a Plan, Have Kit and BE READY !!! Battalion Chief Dan Couch will share how to develop these plans and kits from the Chandler Fire Dept. perspective, Wednesday July 21 at 7:00 PM.

July 4th at Tumbleweed Park

Once again Tumbleweed Park will be the coolest place in Chandler on July 4th. The Chandler CERT program will set up it's annual booth complete with evaporative coolers, ensuring that our people will enjoy a cool, fun  4th.

Come, join us at Tumbleweed to celebrate, greet the public with CERT's message of preparedness, eat, have fun and, of course, have a GREAT seat to watch the Fireworks.  

We'll supply water, etc.

The event starts at 4:00 PM, and we'll plan to pack up the Trailer at 8:00 PM, so that everyone can get comfortable and settled by the time the Fireworks begin at about 9:00PM.

We plan on 2 shifts of volunteers.

PHOENIX - Governor Jan Brewer has pronounced June 7 - 11, 2010, Monsoon Awareness Week to heighten public awareness of Arizona's "rainy season" from June 15 through September 30 and reinforce the year-round value of emergency preparedness.

"The Monsoon brings rains and fleeting reprieve from the summer heat," said Arizona Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) Director Lou Trammell. "But those same thunderstorms preface other hazards. It's just as important to protect yourself against flash flooding, dust storms and lightning as it is to prepare for a summer downpour."

Monsoon thunderstorms strike hard and fast often in the late afternoon or early evening hours. They can amass rapidly and dart across the State at a sprint, producing lightning and straight-line winds and causing washes to run and low-lying roads to flood.

ADEM joins the National Weather Service; the Arizona departments of Health, Insurance and Water Resources; and the Salvation Army in encouraging the public to prepare for the Monsoon season and pursuant dangers by taking basic preparedness precautions.

· Prepare a Plan - Write and rehearse family communication and evacuation plans that identify a family meeting place, account for special needs like prescriptions and the family pet, and include local emergency numbers and an "out-of-town" contact.

· Make a Kit - Gather enough non-perishable food and clean water to sustain your family for at least 72 hours. Suggested kit items include first aid supplies, a flashlight, a weather radio with extra batteries and toiletries.

· Be Informed - Identify threats in your community. For instance, does the road into your neighborhood washout after a heavy rain? Also, visit and bookmark www.azein.gov as an Internet favorite for real-time emergency updates and preparedness information.
